Frequently AskedQuestions

Everything you need to know about relay theft, signal blocking, and protecting your vehicle.

How It Works

The pouch is lined with a Faraday fabric — a material woven with metallic threads that creates an electromagnetic shield. When you zip your key fob inside, all radio signals (RFID, NFC, Bluetooth, keyless entry frequencies) are blocked in both directions. Thieves cannot detect your key signal, amplify it, or relay it to your car.

Yes. The pouch is designed to fit all standard car key fobs and keyless entry remotes — regardless of make or model. It's 14cm × 10cm internally, which accommodates everything from compact VW keys to larger luxury-brand fobs. If your key has a physical blade, that fits too.

The easiest test: place your key in the pouch, zip it closed, then press the pouch against your car door handle (if you have keyless entry). The door should stay locked. For push-to-start cars, sit inside with the key in the closed pouch and press the start button — the dashboard should display 'Key Not Detected'.

The Faraday lining is made from durable metallic fabric that does not degrade with normal use. However, if the fabric is torn, punctured, or the zip seal is compromised, it may lose effectiveness. We recommend testing it every few months using the car door test. If it ever fails, we replace it for free.

Relay Theft & Security

Relay theft (also called relay attack or keyless theft) is a method where two thieves use signal amplification devices to trick your car into thinking the key fob is nearby. One thief stands near your front door with a device that picks up your key fob's signal. This signal is transmitted wirelessly to a second thief standing next to your car. Your car detects the relayed signal, unlocks, and allows the engine to start — all without the actual key. It typically takes under 60 seconds.

If your vehicle has keyless entry (you touch the door handle to unlock) or push-button start, it is potentially vulnerable to relay attacks. Most vehicles manufactured after 2014 have these features. Even if your car has 'sleep mode' keys that stop broadcasting after a period of inactivity, a signal blocker provides an additional guaranteed layer of protection.

According to UK police data, the most targeted vehicles include Range Rovers, BMW 3 Series and X5, Mercedes C-Class, Audi A3 and Q5, Ford Fiesta ST, VW Golf R, Toyota RAV4, and Lexus RX. However, any vehicle with keyless entry is a potential target — thieves don't discriminate.

Car insurance covers the financial loss (minus your excess), but it doesn't cover the stress, inconvenience, increased future premiums, loss of personal items in the car, or the time it takes to settle a claim. A £52 pouch prevents the problem before it happens — which is always better than dealing with the aftermath.

Product & Usage

Ideally, yes. Every key fob you own that isn't inside a Faraday pouch is broadcasting a signal that thieves can potentially detect. We recommend having one pouch for your daily key and at least one for your spare. Many customers buy two or more.

Yes — you simply unzip the pouch and take your key out. There's no setup, pairing, or configuration. Protection is active when the key is inside and the pouch is zipped closed. The moment you take your key out, it works exactly as it always has.

Yes, and this is actually a good way to test it. Place your phone inside, zip the pouch closed, and have someone call you. It should go straight to voicemail. This confirms the Faraday shield is working. However, we recommend keeping the pouch for your car keys only — don't use it as a phone case.

The outer layer is water-resistant and will protect your key from light rain or splashes. However, the pouch is not fully submersible. We don't recommend submerging it in water as this could compromise the Faraday lining over time.

Yes — you can also store credit cards with contactless/RFID chips, building access cards, or small items. The Faraday shield blocks ALL wireless signals, so it functions as a general-purpose RFID blocker. However, the pouch is sized for car keys, so space is limited.

No. The signal blocking is completely passive — it's a physical property of the Faraday fabric lining. No batteries, no charging, no maintenance, and nothing to wear out. It works the same way on day 1,000 as it does on day 1.
